Description

This sign is primarily designed to display a large amount of information or instructions to the viewer about an inconvenience, notice, event or something similar. It consists of 4 distinct elements which facilitate this. The main title at the top is large and eye-catching to summarize a key fact, such as a building being closed. Next is the subtitle which acts as a notice or call to action, such as that facilities have been moved to another building. Then comes several paragraphs of description text which explain the situation or give guidance for what the viewer should do. Finally, the additional text on the bottom can be used for an apology or to state who to contact about the content of the sign.

Usage Guide

Compilation

This template compiles with standard pdflatex. There are no special requirements outside of packages that are supplied with a full distribution of TeX.

Sign Content Commands

Several custom commands are present in the template for outputting the four parts of the sign.

\signtitle This command takes a single parameter for the main sign title at the top. The text you enter will split to new lines if it is too long for one line, but it is not recommended to have more than three lines for this text. You may specify new lines manually to space text neatly with the standard \\.

\signsubtitle This command takes the bold subtitle that appears under the title in its single parameter. You may specify new lines manually to space text neatly with the standard \\. Leave this command empty (i.e. \signsubtitle{}) if this text is not required.

\descriptiontext This command takes a single parameter for the paragraphs of description, explanation or instruction text in the middle of the sign. Make sure to leave empty lines between each new paragraph to ensure proper spacing. You may specify new lines manually to space text neatly with the standard \\.

\additionaltext This command takes a single parameter for the additional text text on the bottom of the sign. Text entered will be italicized automatically. You may specify new lines manually to space text neatly with the standard \\. Leave this command empty (i.e. \additionaltext{}) if this text is not required.

Sign Settings Commands

Custom lengths are present in the template for specifying the font sizes of the four sign elements. It is important to choose the correct sizes for your sign text in order to make the sign content stand out effectively.

\signtitlefontsize This command (length) sets the font size of the main sign title, specified in points, e.g. 70pt. This should be a large value to draw the viewer's eye to the sign.

\signsubtitlefontsize This command (length) sets the font size of the bold subtitle, specified in points, e.g. 28pt. This should be much smaller than the title font size, but large enough for the subtitle to stand out.

\descriptiontextfontsize This command (length) sets the font size of the description text in the middle of the sign, specified in points, e.g. 18pt. This should be smaller than the subtitle to ensure that the subtitle stands out, but big enough for the amount of text to be easily readable.

\additionaltextfontsize This command (length) sets the font size of the additional text at the bottom of the sign, specified in points, e.g. 20pt. It is recommended to set a size for this command to be just a little bigger than the description text font size.
